March 2024 Sport Preview
In our February 2024 Sport Preview we had the start of the Guinness Six Nations, practice started in Bahrain for the F1 Season and the Proteas faced off with New Zealand.
Additionally, all of the major sporting events for this month are covered in our March 2024 Sport Preview. From the Cape Epic to the Women’s Guinness Six Nations and the beginning of the Formula One season. Now let’s take a closer look.
Ongoing Sports Events
- Guinness Six Nations: We have seen some epic games in the Six Nations event thus far. From Italy almost beating France to Ireland putting in a stellar performance that has put them top of the log. It has been nothing but interesting to say the least. Italy have been performing very well and showing what they made off. There are still 6 matches left in March to enjoy.
- HSBC 7s: Vancouver was a highlight for Argentina and New Zealand again respectively. In March the 7s will be heading to Los Angeles on 2 March 2024 before heading to Hong Kong only in April.
Soccer Update for March
UEFA Champions League: With the Champions League well on its way again here are the current standings. Real Madrid and Man City are both on 18 points. With Bayern on 16 points, Atletico Madrid on 14 and Arsenal on 13 points. A good start for sure.
EPL: Liverpool is still ahead with 60 points in 1st, Man City in a close 2nd with 59 points and Arsenal still in 3rd with 58 points. Aston Villa remain in 4th position with 52 points and in 5th once again is Tottenham with 47 points.
Serie A: Here we have Inter in 1st position with 66 points, then Juventus with 57 and Milan in 3rd with 53. The top 3 remains the same as last month. In 4th we now have Bologna at 48 points and in 5th Atalanta with 46 points.
LaLiga: The top 5 remain the same just in different positions. Real Madrid in 1st with 65 points, Girona moved to 2nd with 59 points and Barcelona in 3rd position with 57 points. In 4th we have Atletico Madrid with 52 points and in 5th Athletic Club with 49 points.
Bundesliga: Leverkusen are still in the lead with 61 points, in 2nd we have Bayern with 53 points and 3rd VfB Stuttgart with 47 points.In 4th we have Dortmund with 41 points and 5th RB Leipzig with 40 points.
Start of F1 Season
The pre-season training commenced in Bahrain over the weekend of the 24th of February 2024. Red Bull, Mercedes Benz, RB and Ferrari performed well this weekend however Alpine, Aston Martin, Haas and Williams did not do so great and are craving more time and miles. But lets see what the start of the F1 Season will bring. Races for March 2024 are:
- 2 March 2024 will be the first race of the season on the Bahrain track. With practice sessions starting on 29 February 2024.
- 9 March 2024 is in Saudi Arabia at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
- 24 March 2024 we will find them in Australia racing around the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne.

Boxing
Anthony Joshua will continue his rehabilitation towards being a world-level heavyweight force when he takes on Francis Ngannou for a heavyweight bout in Saudi Arabia on Friday March 8, 2024. Soweto Derby
The date of the upcoming Soweto Derby is March 9, 2024. Kaizer Chiefs will play the Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium. There is always a lot of enthusiasm and a full house for this event. For all the details on this event have a look at our Soweto Soccer Derby 2024 article.
Cape Town Cycle Tour
Previously known as the Argus, the Cape Town Cycle Tour returns to Cape Town on Sunday 10 March 2024. It is a 42 km race through Cape Town with 11 gruelling hills to climb with a fantastic view and excellent riders.
Cheltenham Festival
The best jump racing in Britain is currently held at Cheltenham Racecourse, which is located in the heart of the Cotswolds and has been hosting racing since 1815. The Cheltenham Festival will be 12 March – 15 March 2024. Read our Cheltenham Festival 2024 article for all the juicy details!
Goldrush Boland Super League
Goldrush and Cricket Boland have recently created the Goldrush Boland Super League, marking the beginning of an exciting adventure together. The GBSL is an exciting T20 league centred around community clubs that aims to spread the love of cricket throughout the Boland area.
The Goldrush Boland Super League, which is slated to start on Saturday, March 16, 2024, promises to be an exciting competition including 16 clubs from the Boland area vying for championships.
March Madness – College Football
The term “March Madness” refers to the period of time in which the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) men’s and women’s college basketball tournaments are held each year, usually from the middle of March until the beginning of April. The 68 teams participating will be part of selection on March 17, selection Sunday.
ABSA Cape Epic
The Absa Cape Epic is 17 – 24 March 2024 and is for the brave and untamed! This is the 20th edition of The Untamed African MTB Race. It will be hosted in the Western Cape, Cape Town again this year, with a 700 km distance and 16 000m climb.
Women’s Guinness Six Nations (W6N)
The Women’s Six Nations is now sponsored by Guinness and will commence on 23 March 2024 between France v Ireland as well as Wales v Scotland. It is a rebrand and refocus on this event with the new sponsor and will also be know as W6N. Also Betway have excellent odds and market for rugby and many other sports.
