Welcome to the New Year and all it will have to offer sport wise!

Our December 2022 Sport Preview ended the year on a high note and we head into 2023 looking forward to what the sport world has to offer. Therefore we will keep you posted on a monthly basis so you can keep up to date with your monthly sports fix. Now lets break it down in our January 2023 Sport Preview.

Ongoing Sports Events

Dakar Rally 2023

The Dakar started on 31 December 2022 and will run until 15 January 2023. This rally has been running since 1979 and has moved to different countries over the years, it is know as a rally raid. Europe, Arica and South America have welcomed the Dakar before and since 2020 it has been in Saudi Arabia. The 2023 route is one for the tough guys. It starts on a Sea Camp on the shores of the Red Sea and finishes on the opposite side of the Arabian Peninsula. Here the competitors will discover the coast of the Arabian Gulf, the route is a true test of extreme endurance which packs a whopping 5 000 kilometres. So watching these extreme athletes race their cars, bikes and trucks competing in these extreme conditions is thrilling for sure.

EPL 2022-2023

South Africa tour Australia

South Africa have been touring Australia since December 2022 and this January 2023 they have one more test before heading home for the domestic T20 tournament.

The HSBC 7’s were off to a roaring start in November 2022! Australia Men’s won in Hong Kong. Then the Blitzbokke won the Dubai tournament (they have won the last 4 times in Dubai). And the Australian women’s team as well. In Cape Town it was pouring on the last day and Samoa played like champs and came out on top! New Zealand Women’s team stormed to the end and won in Cape Town. So after a bit of a festive break for all teams the HSBC 7’s will commence in Hamilton. This month you have the following to look forward to:

  1. Hamilton 7’s: 21 January 2023 – 22 January 2023.
  2. Sydney 7’s: 27 January 2023 – 29 January 2023.

Australian Open 2023

The 2023 Australian Open is the first of this year’s four Grand Slam tennis. It takes place at Melbourne Park from 16–29 January 2023. This Australian Open will be the 111th edition, the 55th in the Open Era. Therefore the first Grand Slam of the year. How exciting for all Tennis fans! Winter X Games 2023

The Winter X Games welcomes back fans to Buttermilk in Aspen, Colorado for the 22nd consecutive year! The tournament will run from 27 January 2023 -29 January 2023. Close to a 100 of the worlds top winter athletes will take centre stage. They will then compete in the biggest snow sport event of the year. It is 3 days of heart pounding action showcasing the best of the best action sport athletes who compete in 14 disciplines which include ski and snowboard superpipe, slopestyle, knuckle huck as well as big air. Therefore these games are not to be missed!

Golf

Two Golf events to keep in your calendar if you are a golfing fan are the Hero Cup and Dubai Desert Classic in Dubai & Abu Dhabi in January 2023:

  • January 13-15 – Hero Cup – Abu Dhabi GC, Abu Dhabi
  • January 26-29 – Dubai Desert Classic – Emirates GC, Dubai
