February 2023 Sport Preview

January kicked off to a roaring start to the sports calendar. Our January 2023 Sport Preview touched on the Dakar Rally 2023 where Nasser Al-Attiyah was the over all winner with his Toyota Gazoo. The Betway SA20 commenced on 10 January 2023 and there has been plenty of excitement so far. With so much more to come this year.

Furthermore in our February 2023 Sport Preview we cover all main sport events for this month. From the Six Nations to the Women’s ICC World T20. One other event to mention is the Soweto Derby and the awesome promotion on offer – Supabets Soweto Derby Promotion. So let’s have a look in more detail at all the events coming up.

Ongoing Sports Events

  • Betway SA20: The Betway SA20 final will be on the 11th of February 2023. So in the run up to that there has and will be much more action. Six Nations 2023

This is one of those events Rugby fans all over the world wait for in anticipation. Furthermore, to watch these incredible rugby nations compete is quite the sight. And to top that off, this year is the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France, so all eyes are watching to see what we can expect later on in the year. So are you ready? Who will win? Last year saw France win the Six Nations after a 12 year wait!

The Six Nations is an international men’s rugby union competition. This is between the teams of England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. The tournament will kick off on 4 February 2023 with the following games and run over a 5 week period:

  • Wales vs Ireland (Saturday 4 February)
  • England vs Scotland (Saturday 4 February)
  • Italy vs France (Sunday 5 February)

Alpine World Ski Championships

The International Ski Federation organizes the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, an alpine skiing event. Moreover, this event will start on 6 February 2023 with the opening ceremony on 5 February and finishes on 19 February 2023. So there will be events from the men’s and women’s Super G to the Giant Slalom. Furthermore some of the big names who will be competing are Matthieu Bailet, Marta Bassino, Lucas Braathen and Clara Direz.

Women’s ICC T20 World Cup

The stage is set for the ICC Women’s World T20. It will take place in South Africa from February 10 to February 26, 2023. And Australia are the defending champions. Who will be the new champs of the tournament? South Africa have been on form this last month and it will be interesting and exciting to see what they bring to the table. The venues have been confirmed as Newlands, St George’s Park and Boland Park. Cricket World Cup

The Men’s ICC Cricket World Cup was due to happen in February 2023 however this has been moved to October 2023 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Read through our article “ICC World Cup 2023” for the latest updates.

Super Bowl

The Super Bowl LVII is the American Football Championship game of the National Football League for the 2022 NFL season. This ever popular game is scheduled to be played on Sunday 12 February 2023 at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona. The highly anticipated half time show will be performed by Rhianna this year with pre game performances by Babyface and more. Warming up the stage will be the Bud Light Super Bowl Fest from 9-11 February where the likes of Paramore, Dave Matthews Band and Imagine Dragons will perform. The elite teams who will be facing off on this day are the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Abu Dhabi Padel Master

The Abu Dhabi Padel Masters 2023 will commence on 22 February 2023 and is once of the newest venues hosting a padel tournament. Other countries new to the list for 2023 are Finland and Germany as well. For more info on this ever growing game have a look at our article The Rise if Padel.

HSBC 7’s

The HSBC 7’s kicked off in Hamilton on 21 January and what an event it was! New Zealand’s Black Ferns bagged another gold after Cape Town on which was a very dramatic 2nd day. They now lead the series with 58 points, with Australia in second on 54 points and USA third with 50 points.

The biggest upset and most exciting part of this series so far was when Argentina fought back from 12-0 down to win a breathless Cup Final! And it was a very deserving one, they worked hard for the win and the final result was 14-12. Los Angeles

Los Angeles will be the next stop for the Men’s HSBC 7’s Teams. With the dates being 25 February 2023 – 26 February 2023. With Vancouver coming up for men’s and women’s in March.
