The Ashes is one of the most anticipated events in cricket every 2 years. Any cricket fan will know how competitive this series is. Also it has varied in length over the years, consisting of between one and seven test matches. However since 1998 they have consistently been 5 matches.

The current trophy holder is Australia, they won 4-0 on home ground in the previous Ashes. England last won the Ashes in 2015, so what will they be able to do this year? 2023 in England and the Squad

There will be 5 tests in total to be played across England between England and Australia in June and July 2023. Furthermore Australia are the current holders of the Ashes going into the series. This series is the start of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship. The 2023 Ashes is the 73rd Ashes series overall and the 37th taking place in England. It will also be the first Ashes in 139 years being played in a different month other than August. So it was bought forward as not to clash with The Hundred tournament taking place in August.

Ashes 2023 Dates and Venues

  1. First Test: 16-20 June 2023, venue Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham.
  2. Second Test: 28 June – 2 July 2023, venue Lord’s, London.
  3. Third Test: 6-10 July 2023, venue Headingley Cricket ground, Leeds.
  4. Fourth Test: 19-23 July 2023, venue Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester.
  5. Fifth Test: 27-31 July 2023, The Oval, London.

Recap 2021 Ashes

The 2021-22 Ashes Series was named the Vodacom Men’s Ashes Series due to the sponsorship. The Ashes were held in Australia that year and was impacted by COVID-19 on numerous occasions. However they managed to play all the tests. Also as usual there were 5 test matches, 4 of which Australia won and one was a draw. The series was played over 5 venues across Australia from 8 December 2021 to 18 January 2022. Furthermore the fifth test was played at Bellerive Oval, Hobart, which was a first. Australia were the defending holders and managed to retain the Ashes once again.

Women’s Ashes Series 2023

The Australia women’s cricket team is touring England during June and July 2023. This is due to them competing in the Women’s Ashes 2023. So three Women’s Twenty20 Internationals (WT20Is), one Women’s One Day International (WODI), and one Women’s Test match will make up the tour. The winner of the Ashes will be decided using a points-based system across all three of the tour’s types.


The test match at Trent Bridge will be the first-ever women’s Test match to last five days. Australia is the current champion after defeating England 12–4 in the Women’s Ashes series of 2021–22. It will be great to see the support of these women’s cricket teams and we are sure to see most of these matches on Supersport as they are running the Here For Her 2023 campaign in support of Women’s Sport. The Ashes 2023 – Final Words
