June 2023 Sport Preview

With so much happening in the sport world this year it is a great idea to keep a sport calendar in order not to miss out. In our May 2023 Sport Preview we saw the end of the HSBC 7’s for the year and the fantastic Giro d’italia which was epic as always.

Ongoing Sport Events

2023 French Open: This event will be running till 11 June 2023 and there is sure to be plenty of excitement. So have a look at our article on who is contending.

UK Open Pool Champs: From 30 May to 4 June 2023 at the Copper Box in London.

ISA World Surfing Games: The 2023 Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games will be taking place from May 30 to June 7, 2023.

English FA Cup Final

The FA Cup Final is normally mid May however due to the Qatar World Cup it was rescheduled for 3 June 2023. This is turn will also affect the Epsom Derby which is the same weekend. But we are sure sports enthusiasts will make plan so watch whatever they want.

Epsom Derby

This 244th edition of the Derby horse race is scheduled to take place at Epsom Downs Racecourse on June 3, 2023. The race will start at 1:30 PM, clashing with the FA Cup Final on ITV, who also owns the broadcast rights to both events. Le Mans

Le Mans is an endurance-focused sports car race and is the world’s oldest active endurance racing event. The highly anticipated Le Mans will be 10-11 June 2023 (24 hours). Each team has 3 drivers who alternate over the 24 hours and the team who covers the most distance over 24 hours wins Le Mans!

US Open : Men’s Golf Major

The 123rd edition of the U.S. Open, the country’s premier open golf competition, will take place from 15-18 June 2023. So the Los Angeles Country Club’s North Course will host the 72-hole stroke play competition in Los Angeles, California. Matt Fitzpatrick was the winner in 2022.

Ashes

The Ashes are cricket’s oldest rivalry. That is the prevalent sentiment among Ashes series fans everywhere. Australia are the current holders of the Ashes. England won the Ashes last in 2015, can they do it this year? The 1st and 2nd test will take place in June:

• 16-20 June 2023: Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham.
• 28 June-2 July 2023: Lord’s, London.

Royal Ascot

KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

A professional women’s golf competition, the Women’s PGA Championship. One of the five major events on the LPGA Tour, it was first held in 1955. The Ladies European Tour, which does not acknowledge any of the three majors played in the United States, does not recognise it as a major. However it is a popular and well supported tournament which takes place 22-25 June 2023. Played at Baltusrol Golf Club.

Comrades Marathon

For the majority of long-distance runners, the Comrades Marathon—also known as The Ultimate Human Race—holds a very special place. The run is extraordinarily difficult to achieve and qualify for. This year the Comrades is a “Down Run” which starts at the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg and finishes in Durban. The race distance is approx 90km and is on 11 June 2023.
