South Africans can not only take part in SA national lotteries like Lotto or Daily Lotto but also in some of the world’s biggest international lotteries. To play the USA Powerball you have to select your lucky lotto numbers between 1-69 and one special number, your power number or Powerball number, from a range of 1-26. Draws take place twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays with tickets starting from $2 or $3 with the Power Play option.

US Mega Millions

Like the Powerball the Mega Millions has 9 prize categories with the jackpot starting at $40 million and rolling over until it is won. Since its launch in 1996 it has made many lucky lotto winners with jackpots reaching as high as $1.53 billion. Draws take place twice a week on Tuesday and Friday. The main difference are the odds of winning: while the US Powerball has winning odds of 1:292,223,510 the chances of Mega Millions are less favourable with 1:302,575,350.

To enter the MegaMillion draw you have to pick 5 numbers between 1-70 and a separate Mega Ball number from 1 to 25. The price for a Mega Millions ticket starts at $2 per play, for an additional $1 you can boost your ticket. The Megaplier option gives you the chance to increase the prize value by up to five times but is unfortunately not available to online players outside the USA. To win the jackpot you have to match all 6 winning numbers.

EuroMillions

Since its launch in 2004 the Euro Millions has become one of the most popular lotteries in Europe and worldwide due to its usually massive jackpot. To participate in the draws on Tuesday and Friday you must select your lucky numbers between 1-50 and 2 bonus numbers between 1-12. The Euro Millions costs £3.50 per line and the maximum jackpot is set at €190 million. The EuroMillion jackpot has reached its maximum on several occasions and we have seen many winners walk away with big wins.

Gosloto 6×45

The Russian lotto game Gosloto 6 out of 45 has seen increased popularity. Russia Gosloto takes place twice a day. The draws are held in the morning and the evening and the result are available online after each draw.
To play you have to choose a minimum of 6 numbers from 1-45. To win a prize you must match at least 2 numbers. If you can match all six numbers, the jackpot is yours. To boost your chances, you can select more than 6 numbers. Every entry costs 100 roubles. The GoSloto jackpot is uncapped and grows until it is won. The overall odds of winning a Go Sloto prize are 1 in 6 which is very attractive.

UK49s

UK49s Lunchtime and UK49s Teatime are 2 UK lotto games that play daily. The UK49’s differ from other lottery draws quite a bit. Firstly, there is no fixed ticket price and you decide how much you want to bet. The stakes vary per bookmaker. Secondly, you decide how many numbers you want to try and match. Lastly, UK49 does not offer a certain jackpot prize. Instead the prize amount reflects the amount you bet on your numbers and the odds of matching them. To win in the UK49s you must match all the numbers you pick. The more numbers you achieve the higher your win will be.

To participate the UK49’s lunchtime or UK49’s teatime draws you first of all decide if you want to play a six-number game or a seven-number game. In the former you place your bets without the booster ball offering you better payouts. In the latter you place your bets with the booster ball. This increases your chances to match but has lower pay-outs. Afterwards you choose how many numbers you would like to match between one and five and then pick your lucky number from a numbers range 1-49.

France Lotto

The French lotto game France Lotto is a classic lottery game with 9 prize categories. The more numbers you match the more you can win. In order to win the jackpot, you have to match all 6 drawn numbers correctly. France Lotto offers a minimum guaranteed jackpot of €2 million. If not won the jackpot will rollover up to 34 times. With every rollover it increases by a fixed €1 million until it is capped at €36 million.

The France lotto draws happen every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. To play pick five numbers from between 1 to 49 and a Bonus Chance number from 1-10. The cost per French Lotto ticket is €2.20. After each draw the results of French lotto are available online. Your wins are automatically credited into your online lottery account.

Greece Lotto and Greece Powerball

The Greek lotteries are very popular international lotteries due to their cheap ticket price (only €0.50!) and million-euro jackpots.

The Greece Lotto draws take place twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday). Greek lotto 6/49 follows the same format as SA lotto. You have to choose 6 numbers between 1-49 and if you can match all you win the jackpot.

Greece also offers a Powerball lottery. The ‘Greece Joker’ (Tzoker) offers big jackpot prizes twice a week with draws taking place Thursdays and Sundays. To enter you must select 5 numbers of the number pool 1-45 and an extra Powerball number from 1-20. The Greece Powerball has 8 prize divisions with mostly fixed winning amounts. When matching 2 numbers you will already win €1.50 but to win the jackpot you must match all 6 numbers. The jackpot is seeded at €500.000 and keeps rolling over and growing until it is won.

Powerball Jackpot: R135 million

The most recent Powerball winner from KwaZulu-Natal is the biggest online jackpot winner in the South African lottery history. Due to COVID lockdown the lucky winner bought his ticket online. After the jackpot had rolled over for three months the player was able to match 5 numbers and the Powerball number to become a lockdown millionaire.

Powerball Jackpot: R114 million

The Powerball lottery made another multi-millionaire in 2020. After buying a R5 ticket for the draw on 4th February 2020 a 35-year-old woman from Soweto claimed the jackpot after finding her ticket and checking the results only 1 week after the draw. The mother of four quit her job to spend more time with her children and bought a new family home and a car.

Powerball Plus Jackpot: R83 million

On 23 April 2019, after nearly 3 month of rollover, 1 single player won the biggest PowerBall Plus jackpot yet recorded.

Lotto Jackpot: R110 million

The biggest Lotto jackpot of all time was won on 27 January 2018. After rolling over for nearly three months, 4 winning tickets shared the lotto jackpot, claiming R27.5 million each. One winner nearly missed out on his win as he only claimed the prize money one day before the 1 year cut off.

Lotto Plus 1 Jackpot: R58 Million

Two players split the biggest Lotto Plus 1 jackpot of R58 Million on 28th November 2018. One winner, a grandfather from Pretoria, used his winnings to support his family and the local community.

Lotto Plus 2 Jackpot: R35 million

The biggest Lotto Plus 2 jackpots ever recorded was worth R35 million and went to one lucky woman from the Eastern Cape on 14 July 2018. By then the jackpot had been rolling over for four months before she bought her winning ticket.
