2025 Woman’s Six Nations kicks off

24 March 2025 |

The 31st edition of the Guinness Women’s Six Nations tournament got underway this weekend with the first match of the tournament taking place on Saturday. The tournament is the pinnacle of women’s rugby, showcasing the best countries from Europe with Italy, Wales, Scotland, France, Ireland, and England competing.

The Women’s 6 Nations, also known as the 6 Nations Women’s tournament, is one of the most anticipated competitions in women’s rugby. England will be hoping to take home the cup for a record fifth time this year. The Red Roses have been the dominating force over the last six years and are under the guidance of coach John Mitchell for this season. France and Ireland, however, are hot contenders to take home the trophy. France will be hoping to end their running streak of coming second place at the last three tournaments, while Ireland will be looking to secure their first win since 2015. The W6N continues to gain momentum as teams strive for victory.

First Round of Matches

The first match of the tournament took place this past Saturday between contenders France and Ireland. The opening match took place in Belfast at the Kingspan Stadium. It was a good start for France, who drew blood in the first ten minutes. They also showed pace by scoring two tries in the first half. Furthermore an early red in the second half for France gave Ireland the opportunity to gain some much-needed points. The Irish could not capitalize and made various errors, which gave France the victory, thus winning the match by 12 points with the score after the final whistle at 27-15.

The Hive Stadium in Edinburgh was host to the second match of the tournament between Scotland and Wales. Both teams have something to prove. Wales received the Wooden Spoon last year and Scotland the previous year. The teams were well matched, with only two points separating them at the end of the first half. The home-town advantage played an important part for Scotland, who walked away with a three-point win. The points on the scoreboard at the end of the match were 24-21.

The Red Roses, who are favourites to win this year’s W6N, had an easy start to the competition against Italy. Italy travelled to York to face England at the LNER Community Stadium. England scored quickly to take the lead in the first few minutes of the match by scoring two tries in seven minutes. Italy only got one try in the first half, giving England a lead of 26 points at half-time. The first half was the most fun to watch. Italy scored a try which was not awarded. England scored one try and converted to finish the match with 38–5. The 6 Nations Ladies tournament continues to bring thrilling matches to rugby fans.

Next Round of Matches for the W6N

Teams will now travel to their next location to play in the second round of the Guinness Women’s Six Nations. France will host Scotland for the first match in the second leg at the Stade Marcel Deflandre in La Rochelle. Kick-off is on Saturday the 29th at 15:00.

The Principality Stadium in Cardiff will be the venue for the match between favourites England and Wooden Spoon recipients Wales. The kick-off is scheduled to take place after the first match, with kick-off at 18:45.

Ireland travels to Italy for the last match in the second week’s games on Sunday. The Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi in Parma, with a crowd capacity of 5000, will be the venue for this match. Furthermore Ireland will be hoping to get some extra points in this match, which will start at 16:00.

The 6 Nations Ladies Fixtures show an exciting lineup of games as teams battle for supremacy. The Women’s Six Nations tournament is far from over, with the final weekend of matches only taking place late in April.
