Stand out rugby stars from the URC & Autumn Internationals
The Nations Championship is bringing 12 countries from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres together for the first time in order to see which Hemisphere is the best in rugby. These countries include all the teams from the Six Nations Championship and include France, England, Italy, Ireland and Scotland. The teams that represent the Southern hemisphere are the All Blacks, Australia, Japan, Fuji, Argentina and South Africa.
Each team will play in six round robin matches before heading into the Finals weekend at Twickenham to decide the winner. The six round robin matches consist of three Southern hemisphere matches and three Northern hemisphere matches. Teams from the North will travel to the South during July to play three matches. Where after the teams from the South will travel to the North to play three matches in November later in the year. Fiji however opted to play all their matches in the Northern Hemisphere.
The URC and other European Leagues is the perfect place for young players to get noticed for international season. Thereby leading to many young players being called to join their national teams in Nations Championship series. The Nations Championship gives coaches the chance to see how these up and coming rugby stars will do on the international stage. Before making their selections for 2027 Rugby World Cup. All the teams played friendly matches to warm up for the Nations Series. The Springboks played a game against the Barbarians in Gqeberha.

Embrose Papier
Embrose is one of the players that come to mind when thinking about new stars. Although he has made a few appearances for the Boks in 2018, his spot light is a long time coming. The 29 year old is the South African URC Player of the year. He also earned a spot in the Boks in the Nations Championship clash against Scotland. Papier plays for the Bulls locally where he has played 100 caps.
Cameron Hanekom
Cameron is a Bulls player that made it into Bok camp this year. The 24 year old loose forward made his surprise debut for the Springboks in the match against England. This was due to Captain Siya Kolisi who was ruled out due to injury. The loose forward was coincidentally injured by Kolisi in 2025. Where he suffered from a hamstring injury in a match against the Sharks. Hanekom will undoubtedly be a player to watch in the international test season.
Riley Norton
Riley the 20 year old junior Springbok Captain needs little introduction. The Stormers lock is another young player in the Bok squad. Norton had a fantastic game against the Barbarians a few weeks ago. A hamstring injury has unfortunately put him on the side lines for up to 10 weeks. Rassie explained that “The plan was to play him in this game and then send him back to the Junior Boks for their [Junior World Championship] playoffs.” He looks set to wear the Green and Gold later this year.

There are a quite a few players from Europe that cannot overlooked when talking about up and coming rugby players. The talent pool this season seems immense, especially considering eberyone is looking at what talent there is for the Rugby World Cup in 2027.
Sam Prendergast
Irishman Sam Prendergast is a 23 year old fly half who plays at Leinster. Sam had a sensational season in the URC. It is no wonder that he gained the favour of Coach Andy Farrel. Sam plays is one of Ireland’s secret weapons and player to watch this season.
Rory Darge
Rory plays for Scotland is one of the top flankers in Europe. He is a key player in the Glasgow Warriors side and vice Captain for the Scottish team. Rory will be a player to watch when Scotland take on South Africa at Loftus. In the second match of the Nations Championship.

The 2026 international rugby fixtures happening in over the next few weeks will be vital for players who are looking to cement their place in their national squads. The next Nations Championship round of matches will take place on the 11th and 18th of July.
