Dricus in the Octagon at UFC 319
The UFC action continues right through the month of August. South African have rallied behind our UFC star Dricus du Plessis since he became the Middleweight champion, putting South Africa on the UFC map. Du Plessis won the title in January 2024 when he came up against Sean Strickland for the Middleweight belt.
Tensions were high and chirping from both sides led to a scuffle ringside a few weeks before the pair were meant to meet in the Octogon. Du Plessis went on the win the fight by split decision earning him the belt as well as being the first South African to win the title. Dricus who is a mixed martial artist will be defending his title in the ring again August. There are plenty of UFC fights coming up before the UFC 319 in August. These include two fight night on the 3rd and 10t of August. The fight nights also include preliminary card fights taking with offers great fights of up and coming new boxers.

– Rinya Nakamura against. Nathan Fletcher in Bantamweight.
– Rodolfo Vieira takes on Tresean Gore in Middleweight division.
– Nick Klein is up aginst Andrey Pulyaev in a Middleweight battle.
– Andre Lima vs. Felipe Bunes in the Flyweight division.
– Piera Rodriguez versus Ketlen Souza in the women’s Strawweight.
The Main Card Fights:
– Main event is Amir Albazi vs. Tatsuro Taira in Flyweight.
– Mateusz Rębecki against Chris Duncan in Lightweight division.
– Esteban Ribovics takes on Elves Brener in Lightweight.
– Karol Rosa vs. Nora Cornolle in women’s Bantamweight.
– Welterweight fight sees Neil Magny vs. Elizeu Zaleski.
– Danny Silva vs. Kevin Vallejo in the only Featherweight fight of the evening.

Prelim fights:
– Julius Walker vs. Raffael Cerqueira in Light Heavyweight fight.
– Elijah Smith meets Toshiomi Kazama the Octagon for a Bantamweight fight.
– Joselyne Edwards is up for the fight against Priscila Cachoeira in the women’s Bantamweight.
– Gabriella Fernandes vs. Julija Stoliarenko in the women’s Flyweight division.
The Main Card Fights:
– The Middleweight fight of Roman Dolidze vs. Anthony Hernandez is the main event on the evening.
– Steve Erceg is up against Park Hyun sung in Flyweight.
– Iasmin Lucindo takes on Angela Hill in the women’s Strawweigh.
– Andre Fili and Christian Rodriguez fights in the Featherweight division.
– Miles Johns will meet Jean Matsumoto in the Octagon for a Bantamweight fight.
– Eryk Anders versus Christian Leroy Duncan in a Middleweight fight.
UFC 319
The UFC 319 is the biggest event in August 2025. The event takes place on Saturday the 16th of August in the United States. Which mean that many South Africans will either braai right through the night or wake up early in time to watch the fight on Sunday morning. Either way fans will not be missing these fights!
Five Main Draw Cards on the Evening
– Firstly, Main fight for the evening is for the Middleweight Champion. Dricus Du Plessis will step into the Octagon to face Khamzat Chimaev.
– Furthermore, the second Middleweight bout is between Jared Cannonier and. Michael Page. Cannonier is the underdog in the match and Page favoured to win.
– Tim Elliott is up against Kai Asakura in a flyweight match. Pundits also heavily lean into Kai for a win in this fight.
– Two woman’s fights are taking place in the event. The first is in the women’s Strawweight bout between Jessica Andrade as well as Loopy Godíne. Andrade is considered the favourite to win. Furthermore, the second is in the women’s Flyweight fight featuring Karine Silva verus JJ Aldrich.
Odds on Dricus at UFC 319
The odds some of the fight mentioned are also already up by some of our betting partners. However there is not such great news for South African MMA fans, as the odds are currently against Dricus to defend his title at UFC319. Some pundits say that Stillknocks has what it takes in the tank and others think not so much. All that I know is that we are sure to have great MMA action in August.
