September 2023 Sport Preview

Heading into September we are welcomed by the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France! We can not believe that 4 years have flown by so quickly since Japan 2019, and so much has happened in the world since then. There is also plenty of soccer on the go to keep us entertained. In our August Sport Preview we highlighted the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which was full of surprises.

The Fifa Women’s World Cup final will surely go down in history. It was tense from start to finish as England and Spain put on quite the performance. In the first half, Spanish player Olga Carmona scored a goal. However, there were ample chances for both teams to score. Mary Earps of England has been crowned the 2023 Women’s World Cup’s top goalkeeper. She was outstanding in this competition and also won the Golden Glove award. There is a lot to look forward to, as you can see from our September 2023 Sport Preview.

Ongoing Sports Events

PSL: On Friday, August 4, 2023, Sekhukhune United and Mamelodi Sundowns faced off in the PSL opener. There is a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the PSL season, and several South African club teams have winning on their minds. EPL: The third matchday of the 2023–24 English Premier League season has just ended. The only team to complete the feat is Manchester City, the league’s reigning champion. The previous table-toppers after two matches, Brighton & Hove Albion, were beaten 3-1 at home by West Ham the day before Pep Guardiola’s club managed to defeat Sheffield United 2-1 on Sunday. Chelsea won their first league game under Mauricio Pochettino with a 3-0 victory over Luton Town in the third game week opener. After defeating Bournemouth, Tottenham overtook the Gunners in goal differential, while Arsenal, who had fallen down early against Fulham, managed to tie the game. Manchester City is the frontrunner for the time being, but September has some fantastic games in store. Also, the first North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham is on 3 September 2023.

FIBA Basketball World Cup: On August 23, 2023, the FIBA Basketball World Cup officially began. Canada, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, and Montenegro are the first five teams to qualify for the second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 after winning their respective groups on Sunday. Therefore, five of the 16 positions in the Second Round have already been secured after three days of play in the 19th World Cup. Betcoza have a great basketball promo, NBA rebound.

Rugby World Cup 2023

On September 8, 2023, fewer than 14 days from now, France and New Zealand will face off in their first major battle. What a thrilling opening match at Saint-Denis’ Stade de France! There are 20 teams competing, and multiple unexpected qualifiers have really raised their game.

There has been a lot of anticipation for the RWC 2023 after the first few warm-up matches. We are excited to see what is ahead as we have already seen a few highly entertaining games and outstanding athletes. The RWC 2023 matches will also take place in some of the most beautiful cities in europe. In France, there are 9 stadiums.

The Rugby World Cup 2023 will begin on September 8, 2023, and end on October 28, 2023. Without a doubt, this World Cup will go down in history. Everyone is getting ready for their favourite teams in their supporter gear as there is much anticipation. Can South Africa duplicate its triumph from 2019? Invictus Games

An international multisport competition for service members who have been wounded, ill, or injured, both active duty personnel and veterans, the Invictus Games were first staged in 2014. London hosted the 1st Invictus Games at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

This year it will be hosted in Dusseldorf 9-16 September 2023. Under the motto “A HOME FOR RESPECT” the city, together with the German Armed Forces, will welcome around 500 competitors. They will be from 21 nations as well as around 1,000 family members and friends to compete in ten disciplines.

• US Open: The US Open commenced on 28 August 2023 and concludes 10 September 2023. This tournament is the final grand slam for the year.

Hubert Hurkacz of Poland and the resilient veteran Gael Monfils have been announced by Borg as his two remaining competitors. They will pair up with the No. 4 player in the world, Holger Rune, No. 5 player Casper Ruud, No. 7 player Stefanos Tsitsipas, and No. 8 player Andrey Rublev. A later time will mark the announcement of both teams’ backup players.

Formula 1

The Formula one has one of the longest calendars to date this year. Drivers have just come back from a well deserved summer break. We also saw an epic race on Sunday in the Netherlands. The rain also made it a difficult race with a few cars spinning off track. The drivers Zhou, Leclerc and Sargeant were the 3 cars that could not finish the race due to accidents in these tricky conditions. Alonso made it to podium and was driver of the day! Gasly had a great race and Alpines plan for the him on the day just worked. Furthermore here are the next races to keep track off:

• Singapore: 15-17 September 2023
• Japan: 22-24 September 2023
