October 2024 Sport Preview
All of the major trophies that are available to a team in the southern hemisphere are held by the Springboks now. Two World Cups, a British & Irish Lions series and now the Rugby Championship! Well done to the Green & Gold, next up they will face England, Scotland and Wales in the Autumn Internationals. We saw plenty of spicy events in our September 2024 Sport Preview but October will not disappoint.
Our October 2024 Sport Preview will showcase all major sports events for this month. We still have plenty to look forward to and keep us busy. From the ongoing Soccer Tournaments, the WXV, T20 Cricket World Cup as well as the Cape Town Marathon. So let’s delve into the Month of October.

On the 1st WXV 2024 Weekend South Africa beat Japan in an epic battle. Also in an unexpected turn of events Ireland beat the Black Ferns! Canada walked away victorious against France, England also beat USA. Australia won against Wales and Scotland beat Italy. In division 3 Spain were victorious against Madagascar, Fiji beat Hong Kong China also Netherlands against Samoa saw a draw.
Formula 1: So for full details read our F1 Season Update, there will be two races in October. Furthermore, the US Grand Prix will be on 20 October and the Mexico City GP October 27th.
Currie Cup: The Currie Cup final came to a nail biting end. The Lions had the game in hand and simply had to kick out the ball. However in a strange turn of events they decided to run the ball and the Sharks managed to force a penalty and kick over for the win. This
October Soccer Update
MTN8 Final: The MTN8 final will be on 5 October 2024 between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch. So be sure not to miss this final!
EPL: The Premier League 2024/25 has kicked off and the current standings are as follows. Liverpool has 15 points in 1st, followed by Man City with 14 points and Arsenal close behind with 14 points as well but goal differences. Also Chelsea is in 4th with 13 points and Aston Villa with 13 as well.
PSL: With the Betway Premiership finally on the go let us have a look at the standings. Mamelodi Sundowns are in 1st with 9 points, followed by Orlando Pirates with 9 points as well. Also in 3rd we have Sekhukhune United F.C. with 7 points, Chippa United and Polokwane City are on 7 points and in 4th and 5th position respectively.

Protea Cricket Dates
Women T20 World Cup: The ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will take place in 2024. Australia is the reigning champion, having won the previous edition’s championship final against South Africa. Other Sport
Sanlam Cape Town Marathon: The Cape Town Marathon has reached a record-breaking sellout of 21 000 participants for the 2024 event. On 19 & 20 October you will be entertained by many elite runners and record attendance! The marathon will be on Sunday 20 October 2024 and it is 42.2km long, the start will be close to the V&A Waterfront and an epic and beautiful finish line not far from the start.
Rolex Paris Masters: This indoor tennis event runs from 28 October 2024 – 3 November 2024. It is also the biggest indoor Tennis Tournament in the world.
Chicago Marathon: The Chicago Marathon takes place on Sunday 13 October 2024 and the 46th edition. It is a 42 km marathon sponsored by Bank Of America.
NFL games in London: On 6 October you will see New York Jets v Minnesota Vikings at Tottenham. Then on 13 October it will be Jacksonville Jaguars v Chicago Bears at Tottenham. And lastly on 20 October it will be New England Patriots v Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley.
