LeBron James is a name synonymous with greatness in the world of basketball.

Over the course of his two-decade-long career, LeBron has established himself as one of the most dominant and successful players of all time.

From his humble beginnings in Akron, Ohio to his status as a global icon and cultural phenomenon, LeBron James’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable.

LeBron’s career

LeBron was born on 30 December 1984 in Akron, Ohio. From a young age, he showed an incredible aptitude for basketball. Therefore it wasn’t long before he made a name for himself as a high school basketball sensation. While attending St. Vincent-St. Mary High School he led the team to three state championships. This brought him the attention of scouts as well as fans from all over the country.

Early stages

In 2003, LeBron James was selected as the first overall pick in the NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. This was a huge moment for the young player. As no surprise he didn’t waste any time in making an impact. In his rookie season, he became the first player in NBA history to average more than 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. Of course he was named the Rookie of the Year. This was just the beginning of LeBron’s incredible journey.

Over the next few seasons, LeBron continued to improve. Hence he lead the Cavaliers to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. However, in 2010 that LeBron made a major decision that would change the course of his career.

He became a free agent and decided to join the Miami Heat. There he teamed up with fellow All-Stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. This move was heavily criticized by fans and media, but LeBron silenced his detractors by leading the Heat to four straight NBA Finals appearances and moreover two championships in 2012 and 2013.

Recent years

In 2014, LeBron made a triumphant return to Cleveland. Once again he led the Cavaliers to new heights. In 2016, he accomplished one of the greatest achievements of his career when he led the team to its first NBA championship. This ended the city’s 52-year championship drought. It was even more remarkable considering that the Cavaliers were down 3-1 in the series, making LeBron the first player in NBA history to lead both teams to a championship win.

Since then, LeBron has continued to play at an incredibly high level. He won another championship with the Cavaliers in 2018 before moving to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2019.

With the Lakers, he won his fourth NBA championship and was named the Finals MVP in 2020, cementing his status as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

LeBron James makes history

That is to say, LeBron James was already a legend before he became the NBA’s all-time scoring leader on 7 February 2023.

He needed to score 36 more points to beat the previous record by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – and of course he did it. He even scored 38 points in the game of his Lakers against Oklahoma City Thunder. Now he tops the list with 38,390 points. Moreover he is still playing so he can further add to this astonishing number. There is so much more to come from King James.

In the moment LeBron broke the record, the game stopped for 10 minutes for a well-deserved ceremony. A humbled LeBron said: “I thank you guys so much for allowing me to be a part of something I’ve always dreamed about. I would never in a million years dreamt this to be even better than what it is tonight.” Then he added: “Everybody that’s been a part of this run with me these last 20+ years, I just wanna say thank you so much because I wouldn’t be me without y’all”.

Awards and more

Throughout his career, LeBron has won numerous awards and accolades, including:

  • 4 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards
  • 4 Finals MVP awards
  • 2 Olympic gold medals as well as 1 Olympic bronze medals

He has also been named to the All-NBA First Team 13 times and has been selected to play in 19 All-Star Games.

That is to say, before he became the all-time NBA record scorer he had had already set numerous records and achieved countless milestones.

Furthermore his impact goes far beyond the court. In addition to his on-court success, LeBron is also known for his philanthropic efforts. He established the LeBron James Family Foundation in 2004. It provides educational opportunities for underprivileged children and families in his hometown of Akron. Through his foundation, LeBron has made a positive impact on countless lives. He continues to use his platform to make a difference in the world.

Congrats KingJames!
