The UEFA Women’s Euro Draws to a Close
The 2025 Woman’s Euro is finishing up the most explosive fashion. This year’s tournament takes place in the picturesque country of Switzerland. Where various cities will play host to 31 games. An estimated 700,000 spectators will visit Switzerland’s shores to watch the games, making it one of the biggest events in women’s football.
Much has changed since the first time that the competition was held back in 1984. 14 countries from around Europe now participate in the event. Only four teams played in the first few editions of the Woman’s Euro. That number gradually increased to eight then to 6 and sees 16 teams participating from 2017. UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 has been full of excitement thus far!
Group Stage of UEFA Woman’s Championship
The 16 countries that are competing to be the best in Europe were split into 4 groups which consists of 4 teams. Each team in the group will also see three group stage matches after which the two teams with the most points progress to the quarter finals.
Group A in the Women’s Euro
Group A could have been called the Nordic group. Host country is Switzerland is the odd one out in this group. The other countries in Group A are Norway, Finland as well as Iceland. This group could have gone in any direction but the Grasshoppene (meaning Grasshoppers in English) claimed the top spot on the group. The Norwegians won all three of their matches and finished with 9 points on the board. Furthermore host nation Switzerland known locally as La Nati ended second in the group, keeping the hopes of the country alive as they progress into the quarter finals.
Group B
Group B countries knew they had to watch out for one team in the Women’s Euro. Portugal, Italy as well as Belgium knew all too well that they would be facing Spain in their group clashes. Spain was and maybe still is the favourite to win this year’s competition. The Spanish also ended up winning all three matches in their group games. Sending Spain along with Italy who came in second place, into the quarter finals.
Group C
The mix of countries in Group C made for some excellent football. The mix of countries includes Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Poland. Germany has won the title more than any other country. Lifting the cup a record 8 times. The most anticipated match in Group C was between Sweden and Germany. Sweden won the dramatic match 4-1 showing that they are a force to reckon with in the Woman’s 2025 Euro. Therefore both teams advance to the quarter finals.
Group D
There two strongest countries in Group D were France and England. England are the defending champions. The Lionesses had a good running in the group stages ending in second place after France. France managed to win all three of their group stage matches putting them in first spot. The Netherlands as well as Wales failed to make an impact sending them packing as they drop out of the tournament.
Quarter Finals in UEFA Women’s Euro
The football drama continued into the quarter finals with an upset taking place in the first match. Italy cut short Norway’s dreams after their strong group stage performance. A late goal in the 90th minute sends Italy into the semis.
England was lucky to overcome Sweden in their quarter final clash. The match had to go into penalties to decide the winner after finishing 2-2 after the final whistle. England won with one penalty to end the match 3-2 via penalties. England and Italy will be playing the first semi final match on the 22nd of July.
Spain faces host nation Switzerland in their quarter final match on Friday evening. The last quarter final match is between Germany and France on Saturday eve at 21:00.

The semi finals will take place during this week which sees the final of the 2025 UEFA Euro taking place at St. Jakob-Park in Basel on Sunday the 27. The past weekends Quarter finals were filled with surprises and plenty of goals!
