Tour de France off to a fiery start!
The drama has already started to unfold at the world’s most famous cycling race the Tour de France. The 2025 Tour de France marks the 112th edition of this grueling cycling race. This year’s race saw riders depart from Lille on the 5th of July and have already seen a big crash on Stage 3.
The unfortunate crash meant that sprinter Jasper Philipsen had to abandon the race due to a broken collarbone. He later underwent a successful recovery and is already on road to recovery but will be missed by team mates. Jasper started off the race with a bang taking the yellow jacket on the first day. So whats happening next in the Tour de France 2025.
Stage 3 of Tour de France
Stage 3 has a distance of 178.3km and saw riders take the road from Valenciennes to Dunkerque. The stage is predominantly flat with a climb of Mont Cassel that has a 3.8% gradient and a distance of 2.3km. Riders then have to endure strong side winds as they sprint the final stretch of 35km after the climb. This part of the route is more matched from sprinters and is exactly where Philipsen’s unfortunate crash took place. Current title holder and favourite to win this year Tadej Pogacar, finished Stage 3 in second place behind team Alpecin’s Mathieu van der Poel who took the yellow jacket. The Slovenian will be donning the polka dot jersey for points he won during Stage 3.
Stage 4 of Tour de France
Stage 4 is another tough day for the teams in the Tour de France. It has a distance of 174.2km and sees cyclists traverse the route between the towns of Amiens Métropole to Rouen. The climbs on the end of this stage are challenging and have five hills before reaching the end. The hardest of them is the Côte Jacques Anquetil which is a category 4 climb with a distance of 3.5km and 3.6% gradient. Côte de Belbeuf is a short but punchy climb. It only stretches for 1.3km but it has a tough gradient of 9.1% after a long ride but luckily just before the finish line.
Pogacar of team UAE Team Emirates-XRG was able to finally cross the finish line to get his 100th victory. Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel was outpaced by the Slovenian who in turn was not able to keep up with the Dutch rider in Stage 2. The individual time trial was won by Remco Evenepoel. Pogacar took the day and will be going into Stage 5 with a head space advantage.
Stage 5 of Tour de Suisse
Stage 5 gives riders a bit of a break as they take on the short distance of 33km through Caen. The short distance of Stage 5 is seen as an individual time trial. This stage saw two riders dominating the field with Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel leading the charge. The scene was tense as Italian rider Affini came blasting out of the gates. The Itaian set up a good time for the other riders to beat. Evenepoel gave chase and set up a great run and averaging 54km per hour. Smashing the Italian’s time with 33 seconds. Up next was Pogacar who managed to lose 16 seconds to Evenepoel who put up the best time. The Slovenian slashed the hopes of Jonas Vingegaard who unfortunately had a tough day on Stage 5.
