Junior Boks reach U/20 World Rugby Final
South African sports fans will be excited at the sheer amount of South African teams taking part in international matches on Saturday the 19th of July.
Rugby enthusiasts will need to strap in for two (maybe three) rugby matches taking place. The first match will see the Springboks take on Georgia in their last preparation game before heading into the Rugby Championship. The game will be played in Nelspruit and kickoff is at 17:10. Rassie picked a strong team, mixing up combinations to see what will work going forward. The start of the Rugby Championship is around the corner on the 16th of August. Junior Boks are making quite the name for themselves in this Championship.
Another noteworthy international rugby match is between France and New Zealand taking place early on Saturday morning at 9:05. 2025 is Italy’s turn to play host to the 11 countries taking part in the U/20 Rugby World Cup. All the matches would be played in four towns around Italy namely Viadana, Calvisano, Verona and Rovigo.
The Baby Boks’ road to the Final
The road to the final started out in the group stage matches in the tournament. South Africa was drawn and put into Group A alongside England, Australia and Scotland. Our boys in green and gold started off the competition with a bang against Australia. The match quickly got away from the Wallabies who were only able to put 17 points on the scoreboard. The Baby Boks came out firing and managed to put 73 points on the scoreboard after the final whistle.
Their second group stage match was against England. Who proved to be a much better side than the Aussies but were unable to produce anything substantial. The Junior Boks went on to win 32-22.
The last group stage match saw our boys go up against Scotland. The match ended very much the same style as the first match with the score almost identical at 73-14 for South Africa.
Furthermore three teams have dominated this year’s competition. South Africa finished undefeated at the top of Group A but so did other countries. France who finished undefeated in Group B managed to beat Argentina, Wales and Spain on their road to the semis. New Zealand did the same beating Italy, Ireland and Georgia on their quest for the title. The All Blacks has the most title wins under their belt with a total of six times.
The Semi Finals
Only two semi matches now separated the teams from the final. France and New Zealand played a thrilling match but the All Blacks ultimately won the match by eight points. The score sitting at 34-26 for New Zealand after 80 minutes. The Boks faced Argentina in their semi final clash. Los Pumas defended well the power of the Boks which was undeniable with the score at 48-24 for South Africa.
