Boks gear up for 2025 Women’s RWC

30 June 2025 |

Woman’s rugby has come a long way since the inaugural tournament was held in 1991. This year’s 2025 will be the 10th edition of the Women’s Rugby World Cup. England will once again host teams and supporters from around the world.

Eight different stadiums around England will host the games as 16 countries compete to be crowned the best in women’s rugby. The tournament takes place from the 22nd of August with the final match of taking place at Twickenham Stadium on the 26th of September. Therefore let us have a look at the up coming Bok Women Fixtures left in 2025.

Nations participating in the WRWC 2025

The Black Ferns are by the far the most successful team in the competition. The New Zealand woman’s rugby team has taken the cup home a record six times out. The previous World Cups featured only 12 teams, but this year organizers have added four more, showcasing the sport’s worldwide growth. The new countries competing this year are Brazil, Samoa, Fiji and Spain.

Brazil is making history by being the first nation to represent South America in the Woman’s Rugby World Cup. The structure of the competition is easy, four team in four groups. Each team will face all three opponents in the Group Stage of the event. The two top teams of each pool at the end of the Group Stage makes it through to the quarter finals. The final kick off of the tournament is on the 26th of September.

Countries in Pools in the Group Stage

The path the quarter finals are not easy and every pool in the competition have top teams competing.

Pool A consists of England, Australia, Samoa and the United States. England currently holds the number one world ranking, while Australia ranks sixth and the United States ninth.

Pool B features Wales, Scotland, Fiji and Canada. Canada has been a force in woman’s rugby but they still have not managed to take home the title. Canada is second on the woman’s rugby world standings with Scotland sitting on seventh position ahead of Wales in at number ten.

Pool C sees two countries from Europe namely Spain and Ireland against New Zealand and Japan. New Zealand is the current world cup holders and is at number three on the world rankings. Ireland is at number five.

Bok Women Pool Matches

Pool D is what South Africans will be focusing on during the course of the competition. The Bok Women has been placed alongside; France, Brazil and Italy. France and Italy will be the two toughest games for our national team. France is at number three on the world standings but has so far never made it past the semi finals, coming third a crazy seven times in the competition. Italy have never made it past the Group Stage of the event and is ranked eighth in the world.

All eyes will be on South Africa’s first encounter against Brazil on the 24th of August. This will be a historic match due to the fact that this is will be the first time in history that the two teams meet.  The Springbok Woman will have a few days rest before taking on Italy on the 31st of August. The last Group Stage match for South Africa is against France on the 7th of September. The experienced Nolusindiso Booi who had over 50 caps to her name will lead the charge as our team’s captain.

Teams Favoured to Win

Most South Africans will be happy if we made it to the Quarter Finals of the competition. The odds are stacked against us with difficult teams to overcome in the Group Stage. The top four ranked countries (France, England, New Zealand and Canada) are all considered the favourites to win. Hosts England will be the team to beat this year. The Red Roses won six nations convincingly earlier this year and come into the tournament with a massive 34 match unbeaten streak. However the Bok Women are the Rugby Afrique Champs once again and must not be under estimated.
