Support also came from Rassie Erasmus, SA Rugby’s Director of Rugby at the time of the launch of the initiative.
In its inaugural year, the Betway Next Phase prioritizes the elevation of standards in the women’s game by advocating best practices and coach education. Which will integrate both theoretical and practical aspects to serve coaches in their respective communities.
Cantwell praised the Betway Next Phase programme. She remarked on the importance of attracting coaching expertise to the women’s provincial level. She also emphasized the vital role of coach development at the community level to lift the game’s standards across all tiers. Cantwell highlighted the majority of national players’ time spent at provinces necessitates access to coaching experience. Thus capable of enhancing their technical, tactical, and core competencies.
In alignment with Betway’s initiative, each of the seven participating provinces will design a coach education program dedicated to the female game. This approach offers the quickest and most sustainable method to raise the standards of women’s and girls’ rugby at the grassroots level. With Betway’s support and Cantwell’s leadership, the vision to elevate the women’s game to new heights comes into sharp focus.
