AFCON 2023 Group Stage
The countdown is on! In less than 2 months the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 kicks off on 13 January 2024. As on of the most prestigious tournaments of African football, AFCON guarantees fierce rivalries, spectacular goals, and undoubtedly, unforgettable moments. Twenty-four teams will start the competition but after a total of 51 matches only one countries’ national team will lift the Cup of Nations on 11 February 2024.
Can the reigning AFCON champion, Senegal, who secured a 4-2 victory over Egypt in post-match penalties in February 2022, defend their title? Or can Egypt seek revenge and finally claim their eighth title? Could an underdog possibly be a surprise winner? In the world of soccer, anything is possible! AFCON 2023 Groups
As a quick reminder, the AFCON 2023 Group Draw took place on12 October 2023. South African was seeded in Group E alongside Tunisia, Mali as well as our neighbours Namibia. Therefore the six groups for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations are the following:
- Group A: Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau
- Group B: Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde, Mozambique
- Group C: Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, The Gambia
- Group D: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Angola
- Group E: Tunisia, Mali, South Africa, Namibia
- Group F: Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, Tanzania

In the last games of the group stage it will be all or nothing for many teams. The top 2 teams of each group will definitely advance to the next phase, the knockout stage. The last 4 spots for the Round of 16 will be given to the best third-placed teams across the 6 groups. So there will be definitely a lot of tension and hopefully great football over the last 12 AFCON 2023 group fixtures.
